Are you sure you want to delete this answer? Agreed - 4T is smaller in length than the 4, but go with the 5 - I went with the four for my 3 yrd old and boy was i mistaken. The 5's may be a bit big, but not for long! I checked with my mom when I noticed this, she is a seamstress, and she told me that some companies do shape clothes differently if they are being made as Toddler.
Mom of a 4yr old, daughter of professional seamstress. My SIL asked around about this and was told that the 4T is shorter but otherwise the same size. Looking at my daughter's clothes that explanation seems right. So if your child is getting too tall for the clothes but they otherwise fit you may want to stick with the 4. Personally I'd just try them on and see what's better. But other than that 4 and 4T are the same sizewise. So if she's outgrown 4T, go to 5 from there. I've noticed there is.
My 4 year old daughter had been wearing 4t for about months now and she's outgrowing them, so I purchased size 4 in girls. They fit much better on her. I've decided to just buy those instead of going to 5t. They are close but usually 4t fits the toddlers a little better.
I believe, in my experience with my kids, that sizes with a "T" are for toddlers who are still in diapers. Sizes without a T are genreally smaller in the bottom area and around the waist. If your 3 yr old is potty trained, I'd try 4, but that really depends on your childs body type A size 5 might be too long for your child. A study completed by SizeUSA indicated that Americans are getting bigger and their shapes are changing from what clothes manufactures previously catered for. When it comes to a size 4 however, vanity sizing of a different kind has become popular. Sometimes in these stores Size 4 is their largest size and they are using vanity sizing in reverse and making a size 4 smaller to fit their ideas of super-skinny.
This is obviously an extreme case and the regular woman on the street is definitely not too fat in a size 4. So how much weight do you have to lose to be a size 4? Well that depends on what height you are and what size of frame you have.
Below is a chart with the ideal weights depending on height according to the US government. You should aim for the sizes; Bust; 34, Waist; If you reach these sizes you should be able to fit into a size 4 in most stores. However, it is important to note that because size 4 is such a small size some people will never be able to fit into it simply because of their bone structure.
If you slim down to the weights on the table below, it is unlikely that you will have much body fat as they are on the lower end of the scale for what is healthy.
